Pierre Turgeon Announces Retirement

NHL Legend Calls it a Career

After 19 seasons and over 1,300 points, Pierre Turgeon is calling it a career.

The 39-year-old center announced his retirement on Wednesday, ending a 19-year NHL career that saw him score 515 goals and 812 assists over 1,294 games.

Turgeon was a five-time All-Star and was selected first overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. He also played for the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, St. Louis Blues, and Colorado Avalanche.

Turgeon's best season came in 1992-93, when he scored 56 goals and 95 assists for the Islanders. He also won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2001.

Turgeon is now a scout for the Avalanche. He is expected to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the near future.
