Dan Hurley, the Back-to-Back National Champion, Stands Firm at UConn
Kentucky's Head Coach Search: Dan Hurley Not on the List
Despite Kentucky's interest in hiring Dan Hurley as their next head coach, the back-to-back national champion has made it clear that he is committed to UConn.
Hurley, who has entered rare air as just the third men's college basketball coach to repeat as national champion, has publicly stated that he is dedicated to the Huskies coming off their second straight national championship.
Kentucky can definitively cross Dan Hurley off its list of candidates to replace John Calipari, who is reportedly on his way out. Hurley has joked that he can't take the Kentucky job as it would move his wife further away from New Jersey, becoming the latest coach to turn down the Wildcats.
With Kentucky's coaching job expected to officially open Tuesday, UConn's Dan Hurley made clear Monday night that he plans to stay with the Huskies.
After UConn beat Purdue in the national title game, Hurley was asked about the Kentucky opening, which began to trickle out Sunday and was the first reported interest in the UConn coach from a power conference school since he led the Huskies to their first national title last year.
Hurley's decision is a major blow to Kentucky's hopes of landing a big name to replace Calipari. Hurley is fresh off of winning a second consecutive national championship and is considered one of the top young coaches in the country.
Dan Hurley is a man at the pinnacle of his career, joining a star-studded list of coaches with consecutive national titles. His commitment to UConn is a testament to the strong program he has built in Storrs.
