Hurley Chooses College Basketball Over Los Angeles Lakers
Dan Hurley, the head coach of the University of Connecticut men's basketball team, has turned down a lucrative offer from the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers, according to multiple reports.
Hurley, 53, has led the Huskies to back-to-back NCAA Tournament championships, and he is one of the most successful coaches in college basketball. The Lakers reportedly offered Hurley a multi-year deal worth more than $10 million per year, but he ultimately decided to stay at UConn.
"I'm happy here," Hurley said in a statement. "I love this team, I love this school, and I love this community. I'm not going anywhere."
Hurley's decision is a major boost for the Huskies, who are looking to make a run at a third straight national championship next season.
The Lakers, meanwhile, are still searching for a new head coach after Frank Vogel was fired at the end of the season.
